Successful first weekend of swimming competition for
CSM
In their first weekend of
competition, the CSM Flames Swim Team made a great showing in their inaugural
season.
On Friday, Nov.

ever at CSM. The Flames put up a good fight, but fell short in the final tally
83 - 97.
"The team had
lots of spirit and swam very well," said head coach Rich Draper. "I know that
we will continue to improve throughout the season."

US News &
World Report recognizes CSM for racial
diversity & single-mother residential option
In addition to climbing in the ranks from #38 to #33 among
baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest region, College of Saint Mary was
recognized by US News & World Report in
the category of racial diversity - coming in at number five among
baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest region. This academic year, CSM expects
more than 20% of its student body to be women of color.
Additionally, CSM's innovative residential option for single mothers and their
children, the Mothers Living and Learning program, is featured in an article in the September 2009 issue of US News & World Report. The program is for women who have up to two
children (under the age of 10 by the mother's graduation year), are dedicated
to continuing their education, and are seeking community living opportunities
that recognize they are parents as well as college students.
Curtiss Lecture Series debuts at CSM
Thanks to the generosity of Archbishop Emeritus, Elden Francis Curtiss,
College of Saint Mary initiated a lecture series devoted to Catholic thought
and its influence upon society. The inaugural event in this series was held on Sept.
16, at CSM.
Guest speaker was Sr. Deirdre Mullan, RSM, a Sister of Mercy from Northern
Ireland who currently staffs a non-governmental organization desk at the United
Nations for the Sisters of Mercy and served on the Executive Committee of the
U.N. from 2002-04. Her presentation, "The Call to be a Global Citizen: The U.N.
and Catholic Social Teaching as Agents of Change," illustrated the connections
between more than 100 years of Catholic social teaching and the U.N.
Declaration of Human Rights ratified in Dec. 1948.
