New recycling effort kicks off at CSM
As part of its ongoing program to encourage students, faculty and staff to conserve resources & work to reduce our carbon footprint, CSM has joined with 673 other institutions across the country in signing the “American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.” As part of the “pledge” agreement, CSM is pledging to eliminate the campus’s net greenhouse gas emissions in a reasonable period of time.

Starting this fall, CSM has placed special “sets” of recycling bins in every building on campus. The metal bins – labeled Paper, Plastic/Cans, Glass and Waste – are designed to make it easier to sort/recycle trash – and will eventually allow CSM to cut down on the number of dumpsters on campus and the number of trash pick-ups required each week. This action follows on the heels of CSM going tray-less in the dining hall last year and eliminating all Styrofoam on campus.

“At CSM, we believe we have a responsibility to lead by example in modeling ways to be good stewards of our environment,” said Dr. Maryanne Stevens, RSM, CSM president. “In doing so, we provide awareness to our campus community so they can go forward and do the same in their own lives.”
