4-9 Middle level or 7-12 Secondary

College graduates who want to teach high school (grades 7-12) or middle school (grades 4-9) can earn both their Nebraska teaching certificate and Master’s degree through College of Saint Mary’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. This program is an accelerated program with course offerings on Saturdays and can be completed in one year plus a semester of student teaching. Fall or spring start date.

K-6 elementary education and K-12 ESL

College graduates who want to teach elementary school (grades K-6) can earn their Nebraska teaching certificate, an ESL endorsement, and Master’s degree through College of Saint Mary’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) elementary education program. This program is an accelerated program with course offerings on Saturdays* and can be completed in two years. Fall semester start date only. 

High demand teaching endorsements for current Nebraska Teachers

Teachers who are interested in adding a high demand endorsement to their current Nebraska certification can add a Special Education endorsement in one semester plus one summer or a K-12 English as a Second Language endorsement with just 12 credit hours of coursework. Courses are on Saturdays or evenings.

How To Apply

Applicants for the Master of Art in Education are to meet the following criteria for acceptance into the College of Saint Mary teacher education program and the Graduate Program. Candidates who meet these criteria will be accepted conditionally into the program pending a background check, final verification of pre-requisite content course work toward the desired content endorsement, and passing PPST scores.

Complete the College of Saint Mary Graduate Admissions Application

Submit official college transcripts reflecting a Bachelor degree in a subject area that can be taught at the secondary or middle school level

Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
Pass the Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) 
Obtain Legal Clearance
