The Bachelor of General Studies is specifically designed for students who have earned an associate degree or accumulated college credits and who are looking for a bachelors degree which enables them to build on that degree for career advancement or self-improvement.
This degree provides a curriculum of study which focuses on the development of oral and written communication skills and analytical and ethical thinking, combined with a liberal arts component to balance the technical knowledge previously acquired. Students have the option of adding an area of focus by choosing from all of the other programs of study offered by the College of Saint Mary.
This program allows students the flexibility to earn a degree while using their acquired academic and professional training. The format, unlike a traditional full-time schedule, allows students to move through the curriculum at their own pace, either one course at a time or several courses each semester.
Program Content
The program of study is composed of three parts:
- 64 semester hours from either an earned associate degree or as individual courses taken in the past;
- 28 semester hours of courses comprised of credit by examination or portfolio, additional transfer hours, or College of Saint Mary coursework;
- 36 semester hours of required Core curriculum courses.
