Marie Curie Scholarship

MARIE CURIE SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT CSM

Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Marie Curie Scholars Program at College of Saint Mary aims to increase the number of women who wish to major in the areas of Mathematics, Chemistry, or Biology.  Students selected as Marie Curie Scholars are able to take advantage of programs at College of Saint Mary that will help ensure their success while majoring in these exciting, but challenging, fields.  Examples of the programs and facilities that Marie Curie Scholars currently take advantage of include; the mentoring program offered by the math and science club, use of the Marie Curie Laptop Lounge, and on campus undergraduate research opportunities.  In addition, all math and science majors at College of Saint Mary take advantage of the low student to faculty ratio.

This year, the Marie Curie Scholars Program will offer very significant 4-year scholarship support for 6 incoming first year Math, Chemistry, or Biology majors.  Eligibility requirements for Marie Curie Scholarship consideration are

  1. High school senior eligible to graduate.
  2. Be a citizen of the United States, national of the United States (as defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), alien admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
  3. ACT composite score of 22 or SAT score of 1020 or GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. A 200 - 400 word essay describing their interest in the MCSP. The essay should explain their interest in Biology, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering. In addition, the essay should address why the applicant feels they would make a good Marie Curie Scholar.
  5. Must be willing to live in the CSM residence halls.
  6. Show financial need. To determine this, all applicants will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  7. Interview (in person or via phone) with STEM faculty.

Applications will be accepted until the six scholarships are awarded, but preference will be given to completed applications that arrive by March 15, 2008. Students can apply on line or via mail. Additional scholarship details can be found at Marie Curie Scholarship.
