Built in 1964,
the Science & Math Hall (a.k.a. the Science Building) houses 34,534 square
feet of instructional space for chemistry, biology and instrumentation
laboratories, as well as two tiered lecture halls. The building is structurally
sound, has been fitted with updated equipment for the study of biology and
chemistry. However, to stay current and give our students the high-quality
education generations have expected from CSM, we need to add the following:
- A cadaver lab that will give students in
forensic science and human anatomy courses the opportunity for practical,
hands-on experiences;
- A physics lab to allow us to build our
nascent program - integral for our partnership with the Peter Kiewit
Institute for educating more female engineers;
- Wireless Internet access to allow
additional computer technology to be integrated into laboratory courses;
- A combined computer lab and seminar room
to create a space for students to work together, faculty to conduct
meetings and research results from both groups to be presented;
- An effective, reliable ventilation
system;
- An up-to-date and economical plumbing
system;
- A fire suppression system to ensure
personnel safety;
- Windows that are energy efficient; and
- A new elevator and other features to
ensure full compliance with the accessibility standards in the Americans
with Disabilities Act.
To accommodate
class schedules, contractor timelines and campus needs, we would like to begin
work on the Science & Math Hall in the Summer of 2008. Your assistance is
urgently required in order to make the dreams of women on the CSM campus become
reality.
How To Help
