Director of Marketing and Public Relations
General
Statement of Duties
As a member of the Advancement staff, the Director of
Marketing and Public Relations has oversight and responsibility for branding,
advertising, media relations, publication production; and, the organization and
implementation of select special events.
Supervision Received:
Supervised by the Vice President for Advancement; maintains close
communication and takes direction from the Vice President for Enrollment
Management
Supervision
Exercised: The Coordinator for Publications and the
Coordinator of Special Events are directly accountable to this position.
Examples of Duties:
- Manages the college's
branding program;
- Works with the VP
Enrollment Management on recruitment marketing strategies
- Promotes positive
publicity for the College by networking with news outlets and publishing
press releases about College activities, events, and initiatives;
- Serves as editor and oversees production of TODAY magazine
three times yearly
- Oversees the
publication of brochures, invitations, programs and other internal and
external publications of the College;
- Chairs the College's
Integrated Marketing Committee
- Organizes and
oversees the development of special events for the College;
- Manages the college's
public relations and advertising budget;
- Pursues opportunities
for the President to speak to community groups.
- Manages external and internal crisis communication
Initiative, Judgment, and
Job Complexity: A high degree of initiative and creativity is
required; must exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making.
Financial
Responsibility/Consequence of Actions:
Responsible for the Marketing/Public Relations budget, which includes the
expenditure of significant sums of College funds.
Contacts: Exercise of
human relation skills is critical to the success of this position. Position may be key
to maintaining important College relations with the public, students, and
members of the faculty, staff, and administration

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
The
position requires a high degree of creativity and energy to respond to numerous
requests for assistance from around the campus; excellent writing and
speaking skills; excellent interpersonal and team building skills
and the willingness to initiate communication with internal and external
constituencies. Management and
organizational skills are essential to the applicant's success.
Working Conditions:
Inside
work environment; non-hazardous work.
Infrequent
exposure to extremes in noise, temperatures, distractions, etc.
Little
or no exposure to hazards.
Physical Requirements:
Light physical exertion--Normally
seated, standing, or walking at will. Periodic handling of light-weight parcels or supplies.
Education: Bachelor's
degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred
Experience: Five years experience in marketing and/or public
relations required; prefer that experience be with private college or
university.
