Dr. Kari Wade specializes in nursing research and pediatric clinical care. In addition to her years teaching at College of Saint Mary (CSM), Dr. Wade has taught at Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University and Nebraska Wesleyan University. In 2012, Dr. Wade was awarded the 40 Under 40 Award by the Nebraska Action Coalition, honoring 40 nurse leaders across the state of Nebraska. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Gamma Pi At-Large Chapter, the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS), Nebraska Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Dr. Wade has served as a board member for STTI Gamma Pi At-Large Chapter and currently serves as chair-elect of the Pediatric Research Section of MNRS (2012-2013). Dr. Wade received her A.S.N. from Northeast Community College, B.S.N. from Creighton University, M.S.N. from Nebraska Wesleyan University and doctorate studies at Michigan State University and through CSM. She has been with CSM from 2005-2006 and 2009-present.
Dr. Petersen has taught theory and clinical in both medical-surgical and geriatric nursing. She has also taught courses in senior capstone quality improvement/evidence based practice projects, nursing research and technology in higher education. Dr. Petersen has been an administrator in both practice and higher education and teaches the Management and Leadership class in the B.S.N. program. She holds a B.S.N. from Creighton University, M.S.N. from University of Nebraska Medical Center, Post Master's Certificate in Nursing Informatics from Duke University and an Ed.D. from CSM. She joined the University in 2002.
Dr. Smid has been part of the CSM community since 1974. After many years in nursing administration, she returned to the classroom/clinical setting teaching courses in maternal child nursing, nursing legal/ethical issues and graduate level practicum. Dr. Smid ‘s dissertation topic, Nursing Students’ Self Efficacy Following Participation in a Service Learning Teaching Activity addresses the strong connection between professional involvement and service to a community. She has presented various aspects of this topic at professional conferences both nationally and internationally. Dr. Smid is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Pi Chapter and serves on the board as Vice President for College of Saint Mary campus. Dr. Smid is NLN certified as a nurse educator and currently serves as an NLNAC program site visitor. Dr. Smid holds a B.S.N. from Creighton University, a B.S. in Business from CSM, M.S.N. from University of Nebraska Medical Center and an Ed.D. from CSM.
