CSM invites high school
students to Science Day on Oct. 29
College of Saint Mary (CSM) invites high school
junior and senior girls to its Science Day on Thursday, October 29, on the CSM
campus.
Organized by CSM students, the event is designed to encourage young women to
explore career possibilities in the fields of science and math. It is funded by
a higher-education mini-grant from the NASA Nebraska Space Grant Consortium.
Planned activities for the day include: hands-on laboratory demonstrations
& experiments with CSM students; presentations on science innovations for
the future; interactive science games and quizzes; information on studying
science and math at CSM; campus tours; and free lunch.
"The theme for the day focuses on encouraging young women to explore the worlds
of science and math by actually getting involved through workshops, games and
other activities," said Dr. Ganesh Naik, assistant professor of chemistry at
CSM and the advisor for Science Day. "CSM students will be leading all of the
workshops and we hope this will show young women the endless career
possibilities available when you major in science or math."
Students interested in participating in CSM Science Day may register online at www.CSM.edu by clicking on the Science Day banner
or they should contact Maggi Weitkam at 402-399-2469 or mweitkam@csm.edu.
