Alumnae Spotlight
Mary ‘Mickey’ O’Brien Goldstine ‘68
College of Saint Mary prepared Mary “Mickey” O’Brien Goldstine ‘68 for her dream job of teaching young children.
“I also expanded my knowledge of the world by taking some art, science, sociology, and history courses,” she said. “Attending College of Saint Mary also deepened my faith.”
The Omaha native followed her older sister to CSM. Eileen O’Brien graduated from the University in 1966. Both became teachers.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1968, Mickey worked for Ralston Public Schools for 37 years. She began her teaching career at Mockingbird Elementary before transferring to Blumfield Elementary. She later ended her career at Mockingbird Elementary. She taught first through fourth grades, though she mostly taught second and third grades.
“My proudest accomplishments were raising my two wonderful sons and teaching all my great students who have gone on to make a difference in this world,” Mickey said.
In addition to teaching classes, Mickey found time to volunteer to raise funds to help the Ralston Soccer Club, and she served as the student council advisor for the fourth- through sixth-grade classes at Mockingbird Elementary.
Now in retirement, Mickey looks back on her time at CSM with fondness.
“The friendships that I formed while attending has provided me with many memories that I still treasure,” she said. “I still have some of these friendships to this day. It was a truly happy experience.”
Mickey was awarded the Alumnae Achievement Award during Homecoming on Sept. 23.
