Amir Davis
Senior, Education Major
Brevard County, Florida
College of Saint Mary senior Amir Davis is dedicated to serving the world around her and finds meaning and strength in her education and family.
In addition to studying to earn a degree in education, she works on campus with the children of women enrolled in the University’s Mothers Living and Learning program.
“Growing up, my father served as the head coach for sports camps and director for different youth activities in the area,” Amir said. He was always mentoring, providing a fun atmosphere, and coaching the children in our community. He truly made a difference, which inspired me to try to do the same.”
Amir plans to follow in her father’s footsteps and get involved with the youth in the community she lives.
She also dreams about teaching second graders.
“At that age, they still hold their sweet innocence while also becoming more independent and really learning how to express their personalities — and they really enjoy school,” said the Brevard County, Florida, native.
Amir transferred to College of Saint Mary in the fall of her junior year choosing the University because of the exceptional reputation of its education program. She will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in physical education.
“Upon visiting the campus, everyone was so helpful and nice and I loved how small the classrooms are,” she said. “I just knew this was the school for me.”
Amir and her twin sister wanted to attend their final two years of college together and both received academic and basketball scholarships from College of Saint Mary.
