COVID-19: Health Reporting Next Steps

Student Information

If you tested positive for COVID-19

  1. If your symptoms are mild and you have no fever, you can come to class wearing a mask. Keep a distance from others where possible. If your symptoms are severe and/or you have a fever, isolate. When your symptoms begin improving and as long as you don’t have a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication), you can return to class. Wear a mask for 5 days.
  2. Email your professors that you are out, and your expected return date.
  3. If you are a student-athlete, notify your coach.
  4. If you are a residential student, please contact Larissa Buster, director of residence life, at LBuster [at] csm.edu if your symptoms are severe and you need a room on campus to isolate in.
  5. Notify anyone that you spent 15 minutes or more within 6 feet that you have COVID, and for them to watch for symptoms.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19

1. Isolate from others immediately, take a home test or go get tested. Stay home until you have your results.

2. If you test positive, follow above instructions for “If you tested positive for COVID-19”

3. If you test negative, but have a fever, and/or the symptoms are severe/you feel unwell enough to attend class, isolate at home and test again in a couple of days. Notify your professors and keep in touch with them on a return date. If you are a student-athlete, notify your coach.

If you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19 – regardless of your vaccination status

  1. Watch for symptoms and wear a mask for 10 days.
  2. If you develop symptoms, follow above instructions “If you have symptoms of COVID-19”

Staff Information 

If you tested positive for COVID-19

  1. If your symptoms are mild and you have no fever, you can come to work wearing a mask. Keep a distance from others. If your symptoms are severe and/or you have a fever, isolate. When your symptoms begin improving and as long as you don’t have a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication), you can return to work. Wear a mask for 5 days.
  2. Notify your supervisor that you are out, and your expected return date. 
  3. Work with your supervisor on using sick leave. If your work can be done from home and you feel well enough, work that out with your supervisor.
  4. Notify anyone that you spent 15 minutes or more within 6 feet that you have COVID, and for them to watch for symptoms.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19

1. Isolate from others immediately, take a home test or go get tested. Stay home until you have your results.

When your symptoms begin improving and as long as you don’t have a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication), you can return to work. Wear a mask for 5 days.
  2. Contact your supervisor to inform them of your positive test and expected return date. Discuss any plans such as transitioning to remote learning or finding coverage as needed.
  3. Notify anyone that you spent 15 minutes or more within 6 feet that you have COVID, and for them to watch for symptoms.
