College of Saint Mary to Host Traveling Anne Frank Exhibit
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary will host “Anne Frank – A History for Today,” an international exhibit that tells the story of Anne Frank against the background of the Holocaust and World War II. The multi-panel, traveling exhibit will be on display April 5-30 in the CSM library.
“Having just returned from Amsterdam, where we visited the Anne Frank House with students and faculty, I’m reminded how compelling and important Anne Frank’s message to the world truly is,” said Mark Gudgel, assistant professor of education at CSM. “Many of those who traveled with the university over spring break will be serving as docents for this exhibit, and I truly hope the greater Omaha community – in particular, young people – will feel welcome on our campus and take advantage of the opportunity to view this exhibit and learn more about Anne Frank and her powerful legacy.”
The exhibit immerses viewers in Anne Frank’s family life before, during and after the war. Juxtaposed against the horrors of the Nazi regime, passages from Anne’s diary showcase her enduring sense of hope and unwavering belief in a bright future.
“… I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart … When I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will be changed for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more.” – Anne Frank, July 15, 1944
The guided exhibit is free to the public and is in collaboration with the Institute for Holocaust Education. It will be available during CSM’s business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on campus, 7000 Mercy Road. To arrange a docent-guided tour, contact Mark Gudgel at MGudgel [at] csm.edu.
