College of Saint Mary students, faculty and staff to give back during 26th Annual Spirit of Service Day
Hundreds of College of Saint Mary (CSM) students, faculty, staff and alumnae will give back to the Omaha community as part of the University’s 26th annual Spirit of Service Day on Thursday, April 20.
“Giving students, staff and faculty at CSM the opportunity to give a day of service to our community is a powerful invitation to reflect on our core values in our mission,” said Elizabeth Ludvik with the University’s Office of Spirituality, Service and Social Justice. “Service is a common value that is often engaged throughout the school year through many organizations and clubs on campus. In contrast, our hope in offering a variety of opportunities on Spirit of Service Day, we will all seek out encounters that are outside of our usual comfort areas with the intention of particularly reaching into our values of inclusivity, dignity, integrity and compassion.”
CSM volunteers will complete projects at more than 20 locations throughout the Omaha metro area. Some of the projects will include outdoor work with animals at Urban Acres, assisting with food pantry distribution at Catholic Charities Juan Diego Center, facilitating a field day at the Stephen Center, garden cleanup at Lauritzen Gardens, serving patrons at Table Grace Café, and painting apartments for Heartland Family Services.
Volunteers will gather at the Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse for a kickoff ceremony Thursday morning before heading out to sites for morning and afternoon service sessions from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.
