EPIC for Girls Relocates to College of Saint Mary campus
OMAHA, Neb. – A nonprofit that researches, advocates for, and funds innovative solutions that address inequities in sports for girls of color is now located on College of Saint Mary’s campus.
EPIC for Girls relocated from downtown Omaha to office space in Mercy Hall, 7000 Mercy Road. The move allows the nonprofit to use meeting space and utilize the Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse by its 25 sports partners. It also complements the mutual goals of the University and the nonprofit.
“The initiative we are working toward is improving outcomes for girls in sports, particularly girls of color from north and south Omaha,” said Kimberly Thomas, EPIC for Girls executive director. “That blended well with College of Saint Mary’s goal to increase diversity on campus and visibility within the community.”
“As a university dedicated to empowering women and fostering diversity, we are thrilled to welcome EPIC for Girls to our campus,” CSM President Heather A. Smith, MBA, said. “Their mission aligns perfectly with our values of inclusivity and community engagement. Together, we will create new opportunities to uplift young women of color and further support their growth in sports and life.”
EPIC for Girls hosted An EPIC Day with Dawn Staley in the LFC Fieldhouse in 2023. The organization, which has been operating since 2017 and received nonprofit status in 2020, provides grant dollars to its 25 sports partners, which include five schools within Omaha Public Schools, 18 nonprofit sports partners, and two business owners who provide internships for some girls. More than 1,900 girls participate in programming supported by EPIC for Girls.
