Alumnae Spotlight
Elouise Gaillard Ewing ’78, ‘87
Elouise Gaillard Ewing ’78, ‘87 was a licensed practical nurse when she enrolled in College of Saint Mary’s nursing program.
“CSM helped me to be a better person by allowing me to create a career that I knew I could be involved in for the rest of my life,” Elouise said. “The classes were smaller, and many of the things I learned in the classroom taught me not to be afraid to learn new things.”
The Omaha resident also found the confidence she needed to try anything she wanted.
“The classes taught me how to make sure that I am confident when I set out to do things,” she said. “My teachers taught me not to be afraid to speak up.”
Elouise earned her associate degree in nursing from CSM in 1978. She returned and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1987. Elouise served as a staff nurse in the medical/surgical department and the ICU and CCU at Immanuel Hospital. She later worked as a clinical manager for Immanuel and Visiting Nurse Association and as a clinical supervisor and intake nurse for the Allegiant Health System.
Elouise retired in 2014. She has volunteered as a patient assistant at CHI Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy and Immanuel Fontanelle Nursing Home as well as the Health Ministry at Mount Nebo Baptist Church.
Elouise is grateful for her experience at CSM.
“I’m glad that I was able to attend the College,” she said. “It helped me show my kids what an education can do for them and I am grateful to be a role model for them in this way.”
Elouise was awarded the Alumnae Achievement Award during Homecoming on Sept. 23.
