Tuesday, April 22, 2025

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton University’s former volleyball head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth will be honored at College of Saint Mary’s (CSM) annual Ignite the Flame luncheon June 3.

In its third year, the fundraiser supports women’s athletics, showcases the achievements of CSM’s Flames athletes and honors a trailblazer in women’s sports.

CSM will present this year’s Ignite the Flame Community Impact award to Bernthal Booth for her dedication to empowering girls and women in athletics.

“Receiving the Ignite the Flame Community Impact award is truly humbling. I am honored to stand alongside so many dedicated individuals and organizations working to empower girls and women in athletics and wellness,” Bernthal Booth said. “This recognition fuels my commitment to creating opportunities, breaking down barriers and celebrating the strength of our community. Thank you for this incredible honor and for believing in the power of sports to inspire and uplift.”

The award honors an individual or organization in the community dedicated to supporting girls and women participating in athletics and health and wellness.

“Coach Booth is a true leader, inspiring the next generation of female athletes with her dedication and integrity,” said Robbie Shay, CSM director of athletics. “She has shaped not just skilled players, but confident, resilient women who lead both on and off the court.”

As the head volleyball coach at Creighton, Bernthal Booth made an indelible mark on the sport, earning the prestigious National Coach of the Year title three times. Beyond her coaching success, she is a leader in the volleyball community, beginning a new role at League One Volleyball (LOVB) and serving as president of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and as a member of the AVCA’s Board of Directors.

Ignite the Flame will also include a testimonial from current Flames athlete Kylee Brown. Student and Community Services Chief Officer Lisa Utterback will serve as the event’s honorary chair.

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3 at the Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse at CSM’s campus located at 7000 Mercy Road.
