President Stevens at Cinco de Mayo parade with students

President Stevens Leads Cinco de Mayo Parade

A chilly breeze and a bit of rain didn’t dampen spirits or enthusiasm as festival goers gathered to celebrate the 30th annual Cinco de Mayo festival in the heart of South Omaha May 1-3. President Maryanne Stevens led colorful floats, marching bands and other parade favorites as one of six grand marshals representing local educational institutions.

Members of College of Saint Mary’s Multicultural Association of Students and other student leaders joined Stevens.

In honor of the festival’s education theme, organizers hosted several college fairs attended by College of Saint Mary Enrollment Services representatives.

The mission of Cinco de Mayo Omaha is to promote Mexican culture and bring awareness to South Omaha businesses and organizations while raising funds for nonprofit groups. Cinco de Mayo draws more than 50,000 attendees from Nebraska and bordering states.
