College of Saint Mary students, faculty and staff to give back during 27th Annual Spirit of Service Day

OMAHA, Neb. – Hundreds of College of Saint Mary (CSM) students, faculty, staff and alumnae will give back to the Omaha community as part of the University’s 27th annual Spirit of Service Day on Thursday, April 18.

“One of the core pieces of the College of Saint Mary mission is a commitment to servant leadership and social responsibility,” said Marisa Mathews, director of student leadership and inclusive programming. “Spirit of Service Day is just one of the various ways we offer students the opportunity to engage in meaningful and impactful service directly in the surrounding community. Students have the unique opportunity to step away from their busy college schedules for a day and see the direct impact of their service alongside their peers, staff and faculty.”

CSM volunteers will complete projects at nearly 20 locations throughout the Omaha metro area. Some of the projects will include outdoor work with animals at Urban Acres Horse Rescue, Scatter Joy Acres and Midlands Humane Society, assisting with food pantry distribution at Catholic Charities Juan Diego Center, facilitating a carnival at the Stephen Center, organizing a clothing closet at Patrick J. Thomas Juvenile Justice Center, and preparing meal kits for the homeless at Holy Family Community.

Volunteers will gather at the Lied Fitness Center gym for a kickoff ceremony Thursday morning before heading out to sites for morning and afternoon service sessions from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.
