CSM alumnae to exhibit nature-inspired artwork
OMAHA, Neb. – Four College of Saint Mary alumnae will showcase a collection of their work at CSM’s Hillmer Art Gallery. The exhibit, “Appreciate Our World: A Collection of Work Inspired by Nature,” will include 20 pieces from each artist. Artwork will be on display starting Monday, March 7, with a reception planned from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10.
The featured artists include Mallory Limberg, Daniela Rojas-Florez, Annie Rips and Hannah Muroski. All were art majors at CSM. Both Limberg and Rojas-Florez exhibited work during homecoming last fall, and that sparked the plan for an alumnae show. “It’s one of those things that now that we’re six years out of graduation, we’ve been talking about it so often that we finally said, ‘Let’s make it happen. Let’s just do it,” said Rojas-Florez, CSM assistant dean of student success.
The show will feature a variety of mediums, including watercolor, ink, acrylic and mixed media. “I’ve personally chosen to focus more on watercolor,” Rojas-Florez said. “Although it’s not my favorite medium, it’s more sustainable, which was another focus of the show.”
The artists intentionally chose not to buy supplies but use what they had on hand. Jeff Spencer, assistant professor of art and director of Hillmer Art Gallery, provided recycled canvasses and other items for the artists to use.
“The hardest part of making this show come together is the four of us have full-time jobs, and none of us are full-time artists,” Rojas-Florez said. “I think for a lot of us, it was a good way to reconnect with our art. It certainly was for me.”
