Ellas concert set for May 4 at College of Saint Mary
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary (CSM) will host a free musical concert, featuring Ellas, a Los Angeles-based group, on May 4. Ellas, a triple threat, will perform their unique blend of mariachi and modern music. The concert, which is open to the public, will be at 7 p.m. on the plaza. This is the group’s first performance in Omaha.
“We always love an opportunity to share what we do with new audiences,” said Suemy Gonzalez, the group’s musical director. “We hope we can win the hearts of the crowd in Omaha with our music!”
With simply a guitar, guitarron, violin and harmonies, Ellas have reached No. 7 on the iTunes Latin charts for their debut album “Ellas #primerafila.” Members of the group include Suemy Gonzalez, vocals, violin and musical director; Melinda Salcido, vocals and guitar; and Nelly Cortez, vocals and guitarron.
Gonzalez said the audience can expect “Mariachi roots mixed with a variety of genres, including gypsy jazz and boleros topped off with smooth three-part harmonies.”
Gonzalez, Salcido and Cortez have earned Grammy nominations and a Grammy Award in their individual musical careers. They have performed at iconic venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, the Dolby Theater and the “nest” for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
