Kinesiology Professor Dr. Andrew Shim receives Distinguished Scholar Award
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary Professor of Kinesiology & Exercise Science Dr. Andrew Shim will receive a national award for his scholarly work in the field of kinesiology. National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE) will honor Dr. Shim with its “Distinguished Scholar Award” at a virtual awards ceremony next month.
The Distinguished Scholar Award is given to a person who has made a significant contribution to kinesiology and physical education in higher education through scholarly pursuits within a multi-disciplinary perspective and has been a contributing member of NAKHE continuously for at least five years.
“It is very humbling to have colleagues from nationally renowned institutions recognize my scholarly work,” says Dr. Shim. “I believe the quality of recent publications in multi-disciplinary areas (Motor Behavior, Biomechanics, and Sports Medicine) and being distinct with the discovery of novel findings among children, special needs, and the elderly population drew attention away from other fully qualified candidates.”
Distinguished Administrator, Scholar, Service and Teaching Awards are given each year at the NAKHE conference to honor and celebrate individuals that have dedicated their professional lives to the disciplines of Kinesiology, Physical Education and Higher Education.
Nominees were judged on their contributions by showing distinction in at least one area with contributions in two or more other areas:
- Author of a book(s)
- Author of articles in professional or lay periodicals
- Editor of book(s) or monographs
- Researcher who develops, executes and reports significant research
- Lecturer at professional meetings
- Other scholarly areas not listed above
