Kinesiology student Hannah Fox receives SHAPE Major of the Year award
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary (CSM) student Hannah Fox, a graduate student from Leeds, England, has been selected by the Nebraska Society for Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) as the Kinesiology and Exercise Science Major of the Year for 2019-20. As part of the award, Fox will be recognized at the SHAPE Nebraska Awards Celebration during the SHAPE Nebraska Fall Conference on Sunday, November 3 in Lincoln.
“I am really excited to be recognized for this,” said Fox. “I am also looking forward to going to the conference, connecting with other people and seeing what they’re doing with their degree and their plans going forward.”
The SHAPE Nebraska Major of the Year award celebrates outstanding undergraduate students in fields promoting health, physical education, recreation, and dance. To qualify for the distinguished award, a student must be on track to a degree within a designated field, have displayed strong academic performance, and stand out through school or community service.
Fox earns the award after distinguishing herself as a student and in her community. At CSM, she is an adjunct instructor for undergraduate kinesiology classes and is the president of the Student Sports and Exercise Science Organization (SSESO). In 2018, she presented a research paper at the Sports Medicine Australia conference in Perth, Australia, and she is currently completing an internship with the Nebraska Performance Academy. Fox played soccer as an undergraduate student at Columbia College in South Carolina, and she volunteers as a youth soccer coach for several Omaha clubs.
“College of Saint Mary has been a really good fit for me,” said Fox. “I have one-on-one relationships with my professors, and I don’t think I would have gotten some of the opportunities to grow in my field had I gone to a different school.”
Fox will graduate with her master’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science in December of 2019. Her thesis is entitled, “Does a Relationship Exist Between Force Production and Proprioception of the Ankle in Collegiate Female Soccer Players?” After graduating, Fox plans to pursue certification in strength and conditioning and work in the Omaha area.
“I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of research during my time at CSM, and that’s something I’m passionate about,” added Fox. “I’ve made good connections in the Omaha area and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead for me.”
The SHAPE Nebraska Awards Celebration will take place at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln on Sunday, November 3, at 6 p.m. For more information about the conference and registration, visit www.shapenebraska.org.
