Annie Jankowski Gutierrez inducted into athletic hall of fame
OMAHA, NEB. – College of Saint Mary (CSM) has named Annie Jankowski Gutierrez '08 of Omaha, Neb., as the newest member of the CSM Athletic Hall of Fame. With the induction, she joins a distinguished group of CSM’s most celebrated athletic achievers.
“To become a part of the history at CSM is an incredible honor,” said Gutierrez. “I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to attend CSM and play volleyball with some amazing and talented athletes. I feel that this induction is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of not only myself but my teammates and coaches as well.”
During her four-year volleyball career as a starting setter at CSM, Gutierrez was known for her leadership, determination, grit, athleticism, and passion for the game. Gutierrez helped her teammates accumulate 119 wins and consistently remain in the Top 20 national rankings in NAIA polls. Her teams qualified three times for the NAIA National Tournament and twice finished in the Elite Eight.
In 2007, Gutierrez’s senior season, she became the all-time assist leader with 7,740, which is the standing record across all divisions within collegiate volleyball. She also received the awards of NAIA All-Region IV Player of the Year and MCAC Player of the Year for 2007. Gutierrez holds the all-time NAIA assist leader per-game average of 16.61.
“The education I received and the experiences I had at CSM impacted my life in a major way,” said Gutierrez. “I was able to gain leadership skills, confidence and the ability to overcome adversity. Whether we won or lost a match, I learned something about myself and how to work with others. Those skills help me in my career and everyday life.”
Gutierrez lives in Omaha with her husband, Sergio, and two children, Grace and Hailey.
