Join College of Saint Mary for Blessing of the Pets
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary will host the Blessing of the Pets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4. The annual event will be held at the Prayer Circle near the 7000 Mercy Road entrance.
All pets and photos of pets are welcome.
The event, prepared by a group of students in collaboration with the Office of Spirituality, Service and Social Justice, celebrates the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. “St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most popular and venerated saints in our Catholic tradition,” said Liz Ludvik, director of spirituality, service and social justice. “He is most notably known for his reverence for the environment and his love for all creatures.”
St. Francis embraced a life of peace and non-violence, which manifested itself in sisterly and brotherly love for all creatures, which led to his reputation as the patron saint of animals and nature.
