College of Saint Mary to Host Inaugural Ignite the Flame Luncheon
First-Time Event Highlights Flames Athletics and Community
College of Saint Mary is hosting its first-ever Ignite the Flame fundraising event in support of women’s athletics. This inaugural luncheon will take place on Tuesday, April 25, at the Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse on College of Saint Mary’s campus (CSM), 7000 Mercy Road, Omaha. The event will showcase the achievements of Flames Athletics and athletes, as well as investments made in the greater Omaha community.
The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., including lunch, a program highlighting Flames Athletics and a speaker from the Omaha sports community, Maurtice Ivy with Ivy League Youth Sports Academy. CSM will present Ivy, a former Husker Women’s Basketball great and Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, with the first Ignite the Flame Community Impact Award, honoring an individual or organization in our community dedicated to supporting girls and women in their participation in athletics and health and wellness. Event proceeds support CSM athletes and Flames Athletics programming and scholarships.
“CSM recognizes the life-changing opportunities, lasting character traits and powerful leadership skills athletic competition can provide for women,” said Jeff Johnson, director of athletics. “We want to continue to offer these opportunities for our collegiate level athletes and young women in the community.”
In addition to serving nearly 200 CSM student-athletes, Flames Athletics partners with several organizations in the Omaha metro to support women by offering athletics and wellness activities, such as Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon Club, Omaha Public Schools and Special Olympics of Omaha.
